Top Missed Work Excuses
Bobby Duncanson (Artist, Raven Software) added more humor to his non-.plan .plan file:
Top Missed Work Excuses
***************
If it's all the same to you I won't be coming to work. The voices told me to clean all the guns today.

When I got up this morning I took two Ex-Lax in addition to my Prozac. I can't get off the toilet, but I feel good about it.

My stigmata's acting up.

I can't come in to work today because I'll be stalking my previous boss, who fired me for not showing up for work. Ok?

Constipation has made me a walking time bomb.

For  all the high pingers..
Mynx's (of this one website) .plan file contained this humorous bit:
Just passing this along because it made me smile..

Subject: Ping Anthem
From: tomd330@mindspring.com
Date: Wed, 24 Mar 1999 15:40:27 -0500

For  all the high pingers..

[Sung to the begining of the song "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chilli
Pepers.]
Sometimes I fell like I don't have a partner,
Sometimes I feel like my only friend...
Is the city I live in..
The city of win-modem...
Loney as I am...
Together we cry...
I fly in the bases becuase she pings me at high.
When I walk outside, you know who I am,
you'll see my sparratic movement and load your disklauncher
I see it coming, that ain't no lie.
And I don't wanna FEEL like I did that day,
Take me to the place I love, were the cables play.
And I don't wanna FEEL like I did that day,
Take me to the place I love, were the cables play.
Its hard to belive that theres nobody out there,
Its hard to belive, that Im all alone.
At least I have her though, the game that loves me.
Lonely as I am, together we cry.
And I don't wanna FEEL like I did that day,
Take me to the place I love, were the cables play.
And I don't wanna FEEL like I did that day,
Take me to the place I love, were the cables play...
-The lonely Winmodemer, Raven

A REASON TO GET INTO THE GAMING INDUSTRY (12:00 AM EST)
You can goof off and get paid, like Raven Programmer (SoF) John Scott did in his .plan file.

Heheh, just joking John, seriously though, I'm learning C++ on top of the other stuff to get into the plush life... As if my life of scraping to pay bills and not eating very often isn't plush enough...
NORM QUOTE
"What's the story, Norm?"
"Thirsty guy walks into a bar.  You finish it."
DVD vs. DIVX
Patrick Magruder, Programmer (Rogue Entertainment) updated his .plan with a link to this interesting article DVD vs. DIVX explaining why DIVX is stoopid (as if you needed more proof).
FOR A CERTAIN 'KNOW-IT-ALL'
                  SUESSY "Q"
                     or
           (Just Play The Damn Game)

                  *********

                 By Wayfarer

                  *********

'Twas a quaker, a shaker,
a maker of sorts
Ran a server, Nostromo,
for RA of course.

Tried some settings, upsetting
a few of the crowd,
Who flustered, and blustered,
and moaned out aloud.

That few KNEW, yes, they KNEW,
how quaking should go,
"Default" is way, only way
don't you know?

Reality's curse, they insist
taint the fun,
"Game physics!" they shout,
at the top of their lungs.

Tried to vote, spammed the vote,
when it failed ran away,
Noses turned up and pinched,
over "their" game's decay.

The rest of us, most of us
share not that view,
Failed votes should be telling,
but they miss the clue.

Teeth go gnashing and wails
still rise in alarm,
If we fall from a height
and it does us no harm.

Rocket jump, wicked jump,
so upsetting to purists;
But we play, night and day,
and aren't we the jurists?

If Nostromo-like servers
are filled to capacity
Respect OUR opinions,
respect OUR tenacity.

But I know, yes, I know,
truly know that of course,
It's quite hard to hear me
atop a "high horse."

GLOSSARY ADDITION (3:00 AM EST)
DOH! Way and I overlooked two important Q2 terms... I just added them to the Glossary.
NORM QUOTE (1:00 AM EST)
"What's up, Norm?"
"My nipples.  It's freezing out there."

Check out other Norm Quotes in the Norm Archive.

A Brief Guide to Quake II Expressions {12:00 AM EST}
My pal Wayfarer sent me his 'Glossary Of Quake2 Expressions'
Quake II lends itself to some, ahem, "colorful" expressions of one's feelings regarding opponents and game situations. A new Quaker might quickly become confused. So in the interest of public edification, I will try to explain what people "really" mean when they toss about often cryptic declarations.
An example or two:
DAMN - I am dead.
LAG - I am dead, but it's not my fault.
You can check out the whole shebang HERE. Think he missed something? Send it in!
HERETIC/HEXEN CODERS SAY "AYE"
Raven's Lead Programmer (SoF), Rick Johnson updated his .plan asking for ino on Heretic/Hexen source code editors.
3/25/99
If you know of anyone who has done anything with the Heretic / Hexen source
code, please email me the link to that person's web site, as I want to maintain
a list of links on the source code web page.   Thank you.

QuakeWorld VWep
MDQNet has a mod out that adds Visible Weapons to QuakeWorld. As you oldschool Q2 players may recall, visible weapons were not in Quake II till someone made a killer VWeap mod, now it's the standard. Now Quake is graced with this wonderful feature as well, and hopefully it will also become a standard.. MDQNet has the file up on their main page.
ANOTHER QUAKER JOINS THE CRUSADE....
Heheh, it appears another fella is fed up with the mighty brain of Essobie (of RA2IO) (and his host?). Here's what PeStIlEnCE[DI] had to say to Essobie on the RA2 list:
Who makes you God to have the right to decide how we play Quake2 Essobie?  I mean, come on?
Who made you so self important that YOU KNOW how we have fun?  Ra2 is one helluva fun game,
and it's just PACKED with tons of unreal stuff. Armorprotect/Healthprotect were coded in by CRT, NOT YOU so give it up.
Plain and simple. Voting is here, it's part of the mod.  My suggestion which is much more realistic than your little
"Billy Graham Crusade" to rid the world of "Non-Essobie Like Servers" is this:
Stay the hell off of them.  You don't ping well to ANY servers with the play style you want?
Well, that would leave me two options:
Make my own public server and see if likeminded people come, or;
Go back to playing DOOM.

Now, I know you're supposed to be someone in this little Q2 world, and you and all your
little "EssobieBastard" followers are gonna flame me for this, but I don't give two shits.
Someone's gotta say it, and I am that guy.  You know why Nostromo is the most
popular RA2 server on the planet according to the CLQ?  Because of those "whack Nostromo
Classic" settings.<<SNIP

SNIP>>And Essobie, the first time I see you even connect to that server, I'll ban your whining ass
for good.

This was a response to a LENGHTY post from Essobie (aren't they all?) in which he said this: "Can't you guys just play Quake 2
the way yer supposed to, dammit!" Well last I heard, Quake2 the way it's supposed to be played is something called Death Match, it's default Quake2 multiplayer. Thank God for Modifications like RA2 for making Q2 more fun, Death Match for Q2 bores me sometimes...

PeStIlEnCE[DI] Has a RA2 server running at: 209.100.144.141:27900

#35 'If it weren't for marriage, men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all.'
This was in Bobby Duncanson's .plan file, source listed as 'Unattributed'. It seems to also apply to any relations with females. So, whoever you are... you are a sage...
