| Windows 98 SE Hits Final (12:32 PM EST) |
| From
BETANEWS.COM:
Microsoft let its testers know that Release Candidate 3 (build 2222) was posted late last night. MS told its testers that they believe this is the final build for the SE update which includes a few minor bug fixes and a seemingly mysterious jump in build numbers (from 2185 to 2222). Look for the $20 upgrade to be available from Microsoft in the very near future. |

| COLORADO SHOOTINGS (5:35 AM EST) |
| At the risk of seeming like a bastard,
here's some thoughts on this situation. Highschool can be hell, it seems
like you'll never escape the stress of all the clicks, the gossip, etc.
Highschool kids hold on so tightly to their clicks, not willing to consider
other clicks as 'cool', or even being human. In my jr. high/highschool
my group of skateboarders, punkers, hippies and the like were often ridiculed
by the jocks, rednecks, homies, and pretty much everyone else. They called
us 'dweebs'. At least once a week I was threatened, got into a scuffle
or some other shit all based on my not conforming to the 'normal' bit of
playing sports, wearing expensive clothes and listening to top 40 bullshit.
And what was the justification of the gang of four or five jocks who beat
my cousin into a concussion? For being a dweeb. He was just riding a skateboard,
that's it. And for what? Not being in the right click. And when you're
in highschool, in your teenage years, it seems like your life couldn't
possibly get worse, you have no concept of what life can lie beyond the
highschool walls. And if you were to graduate and move on to your twenties
you'd find that the stresses of your highschool life were nothing, something
you can look back on and laugh about. But these two kids didn't believe
the stresses, clicks, and lives led in highschool would ever change. They
thought life was never going to get better, they'd always be tormented
by blacks, jocks and anybody else stronger than them. And apparantly their
parents didn't explain well enough to them that their lives would change
so much once they graduated, they'd have new stresses, new interests, new
lives. So they got the guns, they built the pipebombs, and made the plans
to get even with these tormentors. On one hand I understand the anger and
rage felt by these kids, they had no clue what lay beyond their highschool
lives, so they lived as if those lives were the only ones they'd ever know.
So they decided those lives weren't woth living, and if you're gonna kill
yourself why not take some of those bastards with you too?
You can't specifically blame any source, unless you want to say society itself. The parents didn't quite explain life to them, the kids at school couldn't just let them be themselves without tormenting them. Average American kids kids get so wrapped up in their labels, their designer clothes, their music, their hobbies, and this fuels each ones little flame. Kids don't have mature enough minds to realize that when the kid says "I don't want to fight," that that means 'please leave me alone, I just want to mind my own business.' Kids see it as 'tough shit, I'm gonna beat you up anyways.' One thing for certain, if the blame be pointed it's in one of two directions, the environment immediatly surrounding those kids (their town, school, families), or the whole damn world. You can't say 'he watched Natural Born Killers and played DOOM a bunch, so the companies that made these things are to blame.' If they are to blame, then so is the whole world for making violence seem amusing, sex for seeming dirty, foul language seeming appropriate. Otherwise, the blame falls at home, on the kids for being so stupid to think their lives were defined in the first 1/4 of it, the clicks for making them feel unwelcome, the schools for allowing kids to treat each other like shit, the list goes on... Get a grip people. Everybody has their own trip, so let them be. If the whole world thought the same things were 'cool' then this place would be boring as hell. Diversity is the spice of life, it's how we define ourselves. So quit beating other kids (people) up for thinking differently, looking differently, talking differently or whatever else. Enjoy your lives, they're much longer than 18 years. |
| WINBLOWS 98 SE |
| Looks like Winblows 98 SE has hit final beta testing, and if no showstopper bugs show up, will ship in May. The complete package will run $89, and the upgrade to 'fix' and upgrade current Win98 will be availible to order online from Micro$haft for around $20. Damn if uncle Bill don't want more money from the people he already ass-raped on their Win98 purchase. May he rot in a Turkish prison for eternity. |
| CTF- AHH MEMORIES |
| Back when Q2 first came out I became a CTF junky fast (note, I was a Q1 CTF junky). Since playing RA2 I've only found interest in Weapons Factory, but mainly RA2, till now.... I played CTF with my Voodoo^3 using cl_lights 1 and gl_dynamic 1, OMG it's purty. Seeing the flags glowing and bases glowing brings a tear to my eye... ;) |

| LINUX RETURNS (2:00 AM EST) |
| Whew, after a flurry of CD backing up my harddrives were relieved of a couple Gigabytes of files, and with that spare room, I reinstalled Linux :) Got it running in a couple hours with sound, access to all my DOS harddrives, and my net connection. Having troubles with the video though since my moniter and video card (V^3) are newer than any drivers in the Free86, but oh well.... Uncle Bill is getting a kick-in-the-nuts-o-gram. |

It's Redhat Linux 5.2 with the K Desktop Environment, LICQ, X11AMP and other toys all in one package. Installing it is so cool since it installs all the goodies for you, so you can be up and running in a couple hours instead of days. Best of all, the newest version of Mandrake Linux (5.3) can be orderd for $1.89. Yes, and entire Operating System for $1.89. You can get it HERE. |
