| LINUX POWER | ||
| Setting up
your own ftp server is as easy as going online in Linux. I went online,
gave Jam Master J my IP address, and he connected to my ftp folder.
Sooo simple, by giving him a username and pass he had full access to my
computer. He could get data from my CDROM or wherever. By deleting his
username/pass he was a normal user, and I made an incoming folder for uploads
etc. The power of Linux.

| COLORADO ARTICLE | ||
| Cliff Bleszinski's and Trey Harrison's
.plan files both speak highly of this article: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/04/25/1438249
"Excellent article on the recent incident in Colorado." - CB "Finally, amidst all of the embarassingly bad, incorrect, overdone, and infuriating coverage of the incident in Littleton Colorado, there is one report/essay/story that is absolutely worth reading." - TH |

| Q3A ALTERNATE METHOD (4:16 PM EST) |
| Here's the other method involving the Mac emulator. *NOTE* This
is not the method mentioned on Blue's, this involves using the Mac emulator
to 'extract and install files', not to play it. You use the emulator to
get the files, then you put them into Winblows and play it there. Involves
the IHV.. :) You can read the HOWTO over at Quake'N
Down Under I claim no responsibility for the legality,
if it dosen't work (for you), if it blows up your house, yadda yadda.
As to the first method, Splash sends word that renaming his Voodoogl.dll made it run in a fashion. Try renaming it 3dfxogl.dll, 3dfxgl.dll, etc... Try variations off the different dll's you have for your 3d games. |
| Q3A ON WIN32 MACHINES (2:35 PM EST) |
| I've gotten a mixed bag on this one, a few got it working, a
few sort of, and a few not at all. Don't blame me if you can't get it working,
I have only partially got it working myself. But some have.. 3DFX cards
are apparantly a trouble, and I got one...
Got another URL last night to a long process involving using a Mac emulator to install the test files, then adding them to the WIN32 Q3A folder yadda yadda. The URL is on my Linux partition, and I can't get it from here. I'll post it as soon as I boot into Linux or see the fella that gave me it.... |
| RAR FILES... |
| Some of you have no clue what to do with the 'hacked' files. Well in the zips are rar archives, which require a rar utility to open.. which you can get here: wrar206.zip (442 KB) |
| PLAY Q3A ON WIN32 MACHINES... NOW!!!!! (12:00 AM EST) |
| You can use the WIN32 server, and some 'hacked' files to play
Q3A on any WIN32 machine.... :)
Get these files: ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/idstuff/quake3/win32/q3test_server_win32_x86.zip http://www.acm.net/~elite/3dfxop~1.dll http://www.acm.net/~elite/bdcq3t01.zip http://www.acm.net/~elite/bdcq3t02.zip http://www.acm.net/~elite/bdcq3t03.zip Then find a server here: http://underworld.idsoftware.com/cgi-win/q3aservers.exe/ Since I'm halfway through the downloads I might not be updating anymore tonight... :) I think you understand why..... |

| Q3A FOR LINUX | ||
| Once the Q3A comes out for Linux
I'll be working away at getting it running in all it's splendor, although
till I learn how to compile my kernel and buy more RAM I might be unable
to really play online with it. KDE can chomp a bit of resources if the
kernel is not configures optimally for your system. :( However,
once I get it to work I will be posting a Q3A Linux tutorial to help Linux
newbies get their Q3A running. Hopefully this will inspire many more folks
to convert to a real OS :)
