- NEW FILE TRACKER (2:56 PM EST)
Kicking off a new section called the 'File Tracker' which will track relevent files for Linux and Winder$ to keep you up-to-date on the current version. I will be adding more over time, but currently have just posted a few of my most used utilities. For those of you who are computer retards (ie not computer knowledgible) here's how you find out what version you currently have:
  * Open the program (not explaining this)
  * Click the 'HELP' button at the top somewhere (usually right side)
  * Click 'ABOUT', and the version you are using will be shown.

- 'Menace' Sinks 'Titanic' Record (12:07 PM EST)
As expected, Star Wars: Episode One : The Phantom Menace sank one of Titanic's box office records this last weekend. In fact, Phantom managed to do in 19 days what it took Titanic to make in 36 days: $250 million. In the end, Phantom pulled in an additional $32.2M bringing its current box office take up to mover $255M. Not only did it take Titanic's record, but in the process Phantom became  the 12th highest grossing film of all time - all in just three weeks.

- Why Micro$oft Can't Win
There's an article on linuxworld that explains quite well why Micro$haft can't win against Linux in the long run. Have a look: http://www.linuxworld.com/linuxworld/lw-1999-06/lw-06-penguin_1.html

The original DOS unzipping tool, PKZIP has released a newer version (2.70). For those of you (like me) who prefer things non-gui (like Linux) then PKZIP is the tool for you. There's even Linux versions of PKWARE tools :) You can get the new version as well as other PKWARE (Linux) on the PKWARE site: http://www.pkware.com/
Or just get the PKZIP 2.70 (for Winder$) here: ftp://ftp.pkware.com/PK270WSP.EXE

- ShadowFactor Bought By M$
Does the name Shadowfactor sound familier to you? It should, they're the developers of BattleCom (formerly Battlfield Communicator), the in-game communication software. This stuff is the phone companies worst nightmare, voice communication free over the net. Scary that a program that improves teamplay in mulitiplayer games is now owned by Satan. To snag a demo copy from Tucows before the prices rise: http://download.tucows.com/perl/selectRegion.html?Target=adnload/dlbfc.html Or hit the Shadowfactor site directly: http://www.shadowfactor.com/

- NEW X11SPY (0.1)
A Linux server broswer, X11Spy 0.1 has been released.

This new version of X11Spy incldudes fixed ping sorting and player listing included. Now you can determine whether you want to join a game based on what players are on and what their pings are like. In our next release we will enable displaying servers based on what master server they are listed from. This may take some time since we will be doing a little bit of restructuring in the process.

- More Star Wars Horror..
Joe Siegler's .plan file has been updated.
Online Support Manager / WebMaster        3D Realms / Apogee

Picked this up off of Cinescape.  Ugh.  The Leo DiCaprio Star Wars Episode II stuff continues.  Read this.  This could be FAR FAR  worse than Jar-Jar.

To those of you Star Wars fans who hold a grudge against Leonardo DiCaprio for mesmerizing teen girls everywhere enough to play a big factor in Titantic's smashing of Star Wars' box office record: Start panicking. In a chat last night, producer Rick McCallum addressed the Leonardo DiCaprio as Anakin Skywalker casting rumors ... and he didn't rule it out. "Both George and I love Leo's work, but we haven't even begun casting yet for Episode II, and won't until September or October," the producer said. For the record, the Insider loves the idea of Leo as Anakin. He's a great young actor (he certainly looks young enough to play 19), and he looks enough like Jake Lloyd for it to work. Backing up McCallum's claim that nothing is going on the casting front (at least as far as DiCaprio is concerned), were similar sentiments expressed by DiCaprio's reps to yours truly last week.

Someone kill Leo please.....

- Ampapod 1.2
A new version of Ampapod is out (1.2). Ampapod allows you to use a $25 stereo remote to control WinAMP. This idea kicks ass, now I could kick back on the couch and jam MP3's like a real potato. New features:

...change OSD font (including color, style, etc.)
      ...disable the OSD entirely
   - Winamp now stops playing before a shutdown call is issued
   - Moved FFWD and RWND defaults from left/right mouse to REW/FF buttons

   - Should be able to handle line noise if present
   - Slight setup screen UI tweaks
   - Worker thread has a slightly raised priority level
   - Toggle shuffle function
   - Toggle repeat function

- Mouseware 8.4 Followup
Well it seems that you need more than just the drivers for the Mouseware (8.4), you need the Control Center too. You can get the files here (in English and German): http://homepage.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/matthias.buecher/files/

LINUX/X11 Opera Web Browser
Current status:
Latest Update 1 June
The Linux port of Opera will be built on the new and redesigned Opera 4.0 code. We have had Troll Tech write the entire front and      user interface in Qt, the leading toolkit on Linux, which promises a very fast browser, indeed. The UI is already working and has
been demonstrated, albeit with limited functionality, on the Linux World Expo in San Jose. Currently, we are pulling together the strings in the new formatting engine and the new ECMAScript module, and will proceed to integrate that with the UI when things are getting reasonably stable. So you, the Linux user, should have the latest version of our code along with the Windows user.

They have a progress meter, it's at about 20%. More details on the Opera site: http://www.operasoftware.com/alt_os.html

-NVIDIA DRIVERS FOLLOWUP
The 1.88 drivers for the TNT/TNT2 apparantly will lock-up some folks Q3Tests. A fix: (From Blue's)

Obviously, the original GLSetup overwrote some of the original Detonator files, which get overwritten by the new detonator drivers, which must be re-overwritten with GLSetup! The fix after getting into this broken state is to re-install GLSetup, and when asked if you wish to keep your files that are newer, say NO. Then reboot and all seems well. (If you say yes, things get even more unstable!) - Mirkurius

Mulititexture support with 16-bit color is apparantly buggy too, RIVA3D has a fix: (Requires Registry editing, not for the squeemish)
Run REGEDIT
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL
create a new DWORD value called ForceMultiTexture (note the capital T)
Set its value to 1.

-Testing 1..2..3 (2:30 AM EST)
Well got most of the bugs worked out of my new layout.... AND NAME. Funny, I sat down and did this whole redesign in around 2-3 hours... I hope nothing is broken... And FYI, yes this is Moses, and this WAS Dingleberry Central.... Also, if you're not viewing this at 1024x768 or somewhere thereabouts... Buy some new hardware ;) More news later...
