- SamHell Interviews
Zoid
Topics include Linux, Q3A
and of course Q3A CTF. From the interview:
People are finally realizing that Microsoft only has one interest: making their stock price go up. Microsoft's products are never about serving the customer, they about about locking the customer into a vendor specific solution and upgrade cycle. Microsoft is very good at what they do--steal and control market share. But people are finally realizing that such a vicious cycle ends up with crap as the product. Microsoft has virtually no interest in fixing problems in their operating systems. It doesn't make them money!
Amen! Read the whole thing: http://www.shugashack.com/samhell/main.htm

- Generations
In Danger (9:30 AM EST)
*Sigh*
When a trulyawesome mod starts to show some maturity and promise, id may
be pulling an abortion....
it
appears that id Software has forgotten its original agreement for Generations.
Basically, they do not remember giving us permission for the project. They
have said little so far, but from the last message I received, once they
understand Generations' current state, they may consider foxing us.

- GameStalker
1.02 (1:50 AM EST)
A
new server browser for Linux and Winder$ is out called GameStalker. It's
straight forward server browsing, no bs (Game$py). A couple features:
*
Client side ping on demand. Once you have completed a query, you can select
one or more servers and hit the Ping button. This will calculate the ping
from your machine to the server. When you first do the query, the pings
are in <>'s, indicating those are the zpdb calculated pings. Ping's
not in <>'s are your pings. To cancel a ping operation, either click
somewhere in the server list or hit ESC. If you wanna feel like you are
using certain other server browsers, do an All query, select every server
then hit Ping -- go get some jolt.
*
Various hot keys: CTRL-L launches a game on the current server, CTRL-S
does a search, and CTRL-P starts a ping operation.

- CDex 1.10 (SR-4)
A
sweet CD ripper.
What
is CDex?
CDex is a freeware application which is able to record audio tracks from a CD-ROM, and save those files to disk in either regular WAV file.
Why using CDex?
Well CDex can extract the data directly from an Audio CD, which is generally a called an Audio CD Ripper or CDDA utility. But hey I hear you say, I can do that too with my fancy sound card for which I've paid big bucks. That's true, but with your fancy sound card you can only record (sample) the analog signal from the CD. This means that the signal is first convert to an analog signal by the CD, which is fed into the sound card and digitized by the sound card. In practically all situation the quality of the recording will be deteriorated. CDex on the other hand, is reading the digital audio data directly from the disc, which can be stored in either a WAV file or a MP3 sound file.

- TvIo, OMG
I
haven't really watched TV in like 5 years except an occasional show, but
I fear this may pull me back in...
LAST NIGHT, I WATCHED SIX HOURS OF television (all news!) without sitting through a single commercial. I jumped back and forth in time: skipping stories that didn't interest me, moving back to record stories that did.
Wow, no commercials, and only seeing what you want, that sums up all I need to want TV again. Read the full article here: http://www.laweekly.com/ink/99/29/cyber-davis.shtml
