Instead of Rine's Link Of The Day I'm making him a semi-full fledged newsguy. It's real simple, he sends me links to cool news, and I post it. Rine's posts will have a (Rine) to clarify who dug it up. Now if only he'd write the article too :)

* Under Pressure, Yahoo! Clarifies Terms
After about 1,000,000 nasty emails from Geo-Cities folks, Yahoo! added a line to clarify the 'owning your site' clause:

To quell users' fears, the company added a two-sentence preface to its terms of service. The preface clearly states that "Yahoo does not own Content you submit, unless we specifically tell you otherwise before you submit it."

See what the combined power of like-minded people can accomplish? Think about other issues that could be handled the same, pollution, gangs... To read more: http://dailynews.yahoo.com/headlines/technology/zdnet/story.html?s=v/zd/19990701/tc/19990701002

* Caldera Wins Round In Suit Against Micro$oft
Whoohoo, David has put a bruise on Goliath..

Benson (the judge), in an 11-page ruling, disagreed (with Micro$oft) and backed Caldera's position that while each practice might not in itself be a violation of U.S. Section 2 antitrust law, together they might form an illegal pattern of behavior.

"Caldera takes a broad approach to its Section 2 claim, arguing that based on an examination of all the predatory conduct Microsoft engaged in, Microsoft violated antitrust law," Benson wrote.

Yesterday, Microsoft lawyers argued against Caldera's claim that Microsoft acted improperly by denying the maker of DR-DOS access to beta test versions of the Windows 3.1 user interface.

* Kingpin Glide Woes
Word from Ridah...
I've had a few emails regarding tech support type questions for Kingpin.

Firstly, do not email me if it doesn't work, unless you cannot get a working solution from Interplay tech support. Your Kingpin documentation has the number for you to call should you have any problems. I don't respond to tech support questions individually, however if I get enough of the same problem, I may post solutions here. Make sure to include your CD serial number when emailing, otherwise it will be deleted, for obvious reasons.

Now, that being said, I've had a few problems from people that seem to be getting stuck at a light-brown screen on load-up, using TNT/2 cards. This MAY be due the existance of an old glide2x.dll in your system directory, from and old 3Dfx installation. Since the game will first try to initialize the 3Dfx minidriver, this will crash under the above circumstance.

The solution is to delete this file, ONLY if you do not have a 3dfx brand card in your system.

Another possible solution is to start the game with: kingpin +gl_driver opengl32

The reason we try the minidriver first, is many have installed the Q3 OpenGL ICD for 3dfx cards, which are not compatible with Kingpin.

Linux update:

We are chasing down one major crash, otherwise it's looking good. Hoping to have it out the door by the end of the week. See how we go.
