* Comic Later
This Eve... (1:15 PM, EST)
After a day of amusement
at a waterpark, eating killer Indian food and whatnot with a beautiful
chick I found myself too drained to complete the comic, it should be up
by this evening.... The Indian restaurant rocked, they ignored the lady
since women are shunned in their society and only talked to me, when we
asked for more iced tea (which is AWESOME) they brought me a glass, and
not her... I was laughing my ass of... FYI, Indian food make look like
baby poo, but it tastes great :)
* Evil Has A Website
Fadz had this link posted
the other day, and upon following it I found the most disturbing and twisted
website I have EVER seen. It is a religious fanatic page reviewing the
South Park movie. A snip or two:
*South
Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut* (R) -- WARNING! This analysis is
blunt.
*South Park* is another movie straight from the smoking pits of Hell.
*South
Park* is an *incredibly dangerous* movie for those who do not
understand
or are developing an understanding of the Gospel .......
INCREDIBLY
dangerous.

I emailed the bossman a long and educated list of reasons why he and his group are truly twisted and that they make children warped little monsters.... You can too... : http://www.capalert.com/capreports/southpark.htm And hit their main page for other reviews... The Matrix review is funny too ;) I added this site to my Humor inks....

If you're a hardcore gamer
(I am) you want your box running at maximum capacity for your games, so
you close all kinds of utilities to free RAM, and leave open those who
claim they 'use little or no RAM'. This utility shows realtime memory/CPU
consumption of each proggy that is currently running, then you can close
all offending proggies for maximum gaming. W00T!

If you haven't heard of
Giants shame on you. This is the game which has a main character that is
a topless female... Interested now? :) Here's a couple few screenshots
showing some action, numbers three and four show our topless heroin in
action :)

* A Brief History
Of South Park
Not up on your South Park
history, this sums it up, especially in how South Park became a hit online
long before it ever hit TV. I saw The Spirit Of Christmas close to a year
before South Park hit TV from some dude who had a crappy copy on video
in Morgantown during my WVU days... Ahhh memories...

* Carmack On K7
And More Fixes
AMD
K7 cpus are very fast.
Some timedemo numbers (a new demo, not comparable to previous scores):
Run
at 640*480*16 bit color to emphasise the cpu/driver performance rather
than the hardware fill rate.
| K7-600 | K7-550 | PIII-500 | |
| TNT2 ultra 16 bit | 73.9 | 68.5 | 53.8 |
| Voodoo3 3000 16 bit | 70.5 | 65.2 | 46.0 |
This is with K7 optimized drivers vs seperate PIII optimized drivers.
There is still wiggle room there in that it is possible that more effort was expended to make the AMD drivers perform better. That is perfectly valid from a consumer's point of view, but muddies the technical CPU comparison.
On identical code run on the systems, there was some more interesting data:
On my map processing tools, the K7 was faster than the PIII, but only slightly more so than the reletive clock rate increase. I would guess that this is due to larger data sets that don't fit in cache as well.
On the matrox OpenGL drivers, which have not been optimized very much and (to my knowledge) contain no PIII specific code, the K7 was a LOT faster.
The bottom line is that I feel comfortable standing behind the statement that the K7 is faster than the PIII. I will have to wait for some stuff to come out of NDA to provide a more detailed technical analysis.
Architectural cleverness is all well and good, but if AMD can't keep the clock speed up with intel, they will still fall behind. A 700 mhz PIII would probably find a lot of applications (especially integer apps) where it would outperform a 600 mhz K7.

* Kingpin Linux
Server And Load Times
Bout
time laddies..... lawd knows real servers ops only run Linux.....
First, the response to Kingpin Deathmatch and Teamplay (BagMan) has been great. However, this has caused a severe shortage of servers, so I have been working feverishly on the linux dedicated server port, which I'm happy to say is ready for small-scale testing.
So, the first six server ops running Linux glibc 2.1 to come forward willing to test out this early build, will be put on my short beta testing list. Hopefully this first stage of testing will go smoothly and if so, the linux server will be just a few days away.
And on LOOOOOONG load times:
Now,
another "possible" solution to the long CD loads (again, I can't test these
out,
since
none of our machines exhibit the problem). This courtesy of <a href="http://www.rcook.com">Randy
Cook</a>.
1) Save your current game in the Save Game menu.
2) Exit Kingpin
3) Put the Kingpin CD in the tray, but leave the tray open.
4) Start Kingpin
5) At the main menu, select "Game" then "Load Game". Do not start game yet.
6) Close the CD tray.
7) Select your saved game, and begin playing.
Hopefully this will help things out, but again, I have no idea if this will work.
* Linux vs. Windows
2000
This
ZDNet article compares the two, but I'll skip to the verdict:
The Verdict
If Windows 2000 meets its goals, it will be a big step forward for operating systems. But development delays have put it months away from hitting the shelves.
Meanwhile,
Linux is reliable and available now-- although usability snags and limited
support make it a better server than desktop OS. As big-name software vendors
and support continue to emerge,
Linux
will remain a serious contender.
