 * Whew... Late Start (4:25 PM, EST)
Last night I put in about six hours on Rine's computer battling the strange partition alterations happaning seemingly on their own. I woke at 11 AM only to passout again after about a half hour.... Now on to the news...

* Slackware 4.0 Preview/Review
A short (p)review of the of the best Linux distro. Hey, it powers Nofadz.com as well as 11th Commandment Central....   http://www.cpureview.com/rev_slack4_a.html

* AOL/Sun/Netscape Full Of Shit
After bragging about how they were going to make Linux their server platform they of course change their minds. Sad that folks can't see past the dollar bills to the real future of computing. Think further ahead you lying p&^%#s. http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2302991,00.html?chkpt=hpqs014

In semi-related news:

* The AOL/M$ IM War
Keep up to date on this amusing news spectacular.... Monopoly vs Monopoly...

* 420 GB Hard Drives??
OMFG.

IBM said the new product line can handle from 420 gigabytes, or billions of bytes of data, up to 11  terrabytes, or trillions of bytes, the highest capacity in the industry. The new storage systems, together with a refreshed line of storage tape backup products, help organizations record and track the massive volumes of information they create each day.

Wow, but I'd fear when Winblow$ locks and forces a scandisk... It could take hours, and imagine the defrag time... :/  http://www.agnhardware.com/html/agnhw-news.cfm?date=7/26/1999&NewsID=#4132

* Tomb Raider 4 Preview
If you are like me, the only thing tha actually spurs you toward the Tomb Raider is Lara Croft being hot then you can get a little info over on Avault about the next, and final installment in this overused franchise... http://www.avault.com/previews/preview_temp.asp?game=trlr&page=1

* Another Friggin Planet...
Planet Nukem.... Yup another in the series of stupid websites coverage of games... Visit it once to say you did, then never go back... I haven't been to PQ in around a month... No need, all they talk about is how cool they are, and their beatoff..er down...  http://www.planetnukem.com/

* Nextstart 2.0 Beta 6
This Startmenu magnifier has a new version, and it's real nice :)  http://members.xoom.com/WinSTEP2000

* bleem! 1.4
For a product that I have seen in stores, it's funny that it keeps coming out with new patches... Shouldn't have been released yet IMHO, it's still a beta.    http://207.71.8.31/

* Awakining Shots
This 3D epic being designed from the ground up have some screenshots (alpha) of some of what their early engine looks like. The game idea is cool... I hope to see it make it to release...  http://www.dtcomputers.com/awaken/

* Kingpin Patch Beta Testing (1:33 PM, EST)
Word from the Ridah....
It appears there was a major crash in the Kingpin patch client, which only seems to occur with the particular binaries that were released. I believe this may be the unfortunate occurance of a MSVC 6.0 bug, which causes some builds to screw up. At any rate, the onus falls on me, for not having that particular build tested before release.

As a result of this, I have decided to open up the Kingpin beta testing to the public. With most of us on holidays (yes, that includes me) at the moment, I'm thinking the best thing to do, is to make what would usually be internal builds, available to anyone willing to help the testing process. Then, once these builds reach a state where things are running smoothly, I'll release that build as the official patch.

This way those that are experiencing major problems with the commercial release, can get access to builds that may fix their problems, or at least they can help me get their problem fixed sooner, rather than later.

The beta page can be found http://impact.frag.com/ridah/kptest

Something that may be useful for Linux Kingpin users, I recieved this email from Marvin at linuxgames.com:

LinuxGames  has opened up a new forum http://forums.linuxgames.com/wwwthreads.pl?action=list&Board=Kingpin
for people playing Kingpin under Linux. This is for people who are having questions or a problem and cannot find an answer. Make sure you check out Gangland for the lastest in Kingpin news.

* Quake 1 + Railgun = Bliss :)
A fine fella added the Railgun to Q1. The model looks sweet... now to see how it shoots ;)  http://www.3dpalette.com/goldbug/code.html

* Action Half-Life
One of Q2's top mods now has been ported/redone for half-Life. I've played a little Action Quake and it does indeed rock, although it's download heavy. If you like Half-Life and Action Quake then go here and you're all set: http://ahl.telefragged.com/

* M$ Souping Up Win2K To Be A Mutimedia Monster
Well maybe not, but the plans are interesting, especially with the recent anti-trust cases concerning M$ integrating lots of stuff into their OS. This new OS (code-named Millennium) will make digital music and photograph editing/viewing/listening easier by integrating it all into the OS. Can you say bug factory? http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2301775,00.html?chkpt=hpqs014

* Europeans Kick U.S. Ass AGAIN In Quake...
No surprises here.....   http://www.challenge-au.com/

* 3D Programming Guide
I'm learning Visual Basic right now as a stepping stone toward C++ (which I sort of know) to be able to code my own mods/games. I can edit the stuff, and have made my own little mod altering physics and weapons and such, but that's not enough. This site has a nice guide to 3D programming from compilers to coding the games.  http://www.explosive3d.com/faqs/3d_programming_guide/index.shtml

* # 141 Every Silver Cloud Has a Hole In It's Lining
A minor rant. Why in the name of God do so few hardware/software manufactures support Linux? Why the hell do they make Linux impossible to play games on since there are no damn drivers for the hardware? Why don't they make games theat can play on any OS? thank God for id software for making a bold move toward this with their QVVM (Quake Virtual Machine), but hey John... how about fixing your old games too buddy....

* Tron Remake/Sequel (8:50 AM, EST) Sooo sleepy...
Pixar studios considering making a Tron remake/sequel after Toy Story 2 is released in November. I'm stoked, this is the perfect time for such a movie, especially since I live/breath computer fumes :)   http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2301037,00.html

* Be A Motorbike... VROOM VROOM!
Came across this while browsing... Orignally discovered by Milamber

I was just fiddling around with Kingpin and found out how you can test the very cool vehicle code that didn't quite make it into Kingpin. As you probably know, before being hired by Xatrix, Ryan "Ridah" Feltrin coded the immensely popular Q1 TC, Quake rally. So, the vehicle code is pretty damn special. Anyways, start the game using +set developer 1 and the bring down the console and type g_vehicle_test 1 and for a really authentic feel, turn on the rear-view mirror by typing cl_rearviewmirror 1. Now map one of the DM levels, kpdm1 works fine, and try being, from what I can gather, a motorbike, complete with fairly realistic physics and sounds. Rock!

Heehee, I used to play Quake Rally by myself cause my connection sucked too bad to play it online, and I had no LAN :( I liked killing Duke Nukems though :)

* AVP European Patch Version....
Not sure what this means, but it's only a 1.1 MB d/l so.....  hehehhe  ftp://ftp.avault.com/patches/avp_european_patch_01.exe
