Where you can download simple color alterations of an already classic model for q3test!

These are just alterations to the original Visor skin done by Kenneth Scott, and altered by Ryan "Novus" Harris to offer some player customization in q3test.

Since the EULA aggrement stuff went down I haven't touched this site. I've tried to answer anyones email that asks questions about getting stuff to work. As far as I know the only way to get extra paks to work properly now is to hack the exe. That I'm going to leave alone. Since I left a lot has happened, I've been to Quakecon (including discussions with JC and Paul Steed), I'm back to school, I've been working, and I've attended several LAN partys. I'll see what happens with the skins for Q3A when it ships and see if I want to invest the time to redo those skins in my style.

Nofadz is my god. I flipped when I found out early yesterday that Buffy: The Vampier Slayer's season finale wasn't going to air last night. One of my very old and good freinds got me hooked on it, and it's now the only show that I watch religously(scary but atleast I have something). I wish it was in another format... geez RealVideo blows. Well, I updated my Starwars Rantage. A little more refined, and some more stuff in there. Today is a good day though. I'm going to the Indy 500 tommorow with a buddy of mine. See you guys Tuesday.

This page is slowly going to become just my ramblings since there is very little activity in the community lately except for people just plain playing the hell out of Q3test. I've emailed WitZ over at the PQ Skins site (yeah, so sue me for using a large common resource) about getting a channel for skinners and stuff on EnterTheGame.com all I got back was a "maybe"(litteraly). Oh, and I saw Star Wars Episode I: The Phanttom Menace. Not a bad movie, but also not a name your firstt born child Anakin/Amidala (or heaven forbid... Jar-Jar) type of movie. Here's my take on it: Starwars Rantage. I'll be updating periodically as I add stuff to it, and anyhiing else that catches my fancy. Be forwarned there are spoilers in it if you haven't seen it yet. If you haven't seen it yet and you don't have an objecttion to see it based purely on principals then go see it. If someone told you it sucked and that's why your not going to see it, then go see it. Don't let someone else tell you how to think.

Had my last final today. I'm out of school now. WOOT! To bad I have to go to work Monday morning. As you can See I got my collage together. Pretty keen, eh? I've decided against messing with the sarge skin. It just wouldn't be kosher. Nothing all that new though. I'm still thinking of messing with the rail glow .tgas. I'll probably end up doing it. Damn, I wish that JC had made the default skin work right.

Friday, May 14th
Well I was working on the sarge skin and running the md3 viewer and a winamp plugin and apparently they don't much like eachother when you exit one, so... I lost what work I did do. It wasn't much work, but after muking around with it I didn't quite like the skin as it is. He's almost completely covered in blood. Plus the fact that sarge isn't "officially" supported by id makes me think that something might change. If I get some extra time I'll go back to him, but I'm starting to focus on learning my way around photoshop more and working on my own skin. I did finish my collage, but Essobie is not around to give me a second opinion on it and get it working properly with the site. I really don't want some small ass thing so youc can't see the colors.

Oh, and if you see someone on a server that's all white don't tell them they suck for being all white, ask them where they got their skin. I wish that the default skin would work properly.

It's early in the morning but I wanted to update and tell you what I'm planning on doing in the next few days. I have one more final tommorow afternoon, but today I'm going to be working on making a skin collage of action shots and some more customization. I was recently given the files to make the sarge model from the IHV (I don't have it so don't ask) to work with the offical q3test, so I'm going to get a polychrome pak made for that first. Next I'll mess with some of the other neat stuff in the pak0.pk3 I've already edited the rail flash and It looks neat and I'm going to try to do the rail like the rest of it.

I'm a little too hyped on this rainbow thing but that's ok. Oh and it's not possible to edit the actual rail trail. The way it's implemented is really ingenius and is so simple it's impossible to tamper with. If you want to know why stop by #mahq-ra2io on EnterTheGame.com

I made a crosshair of my own because I like using the health crosshair dealie and Essobie's crosshair doesn't work well with it. Actually I just added diagonals to Essobies. It's keen. Just click on it to get the .tga file.

Today I got reservations for a suite at the Hampton in Mesquite, Texas for Quakecon99. It's the hotel attatched to the convention center. What I'm trying to get at is that right now we have 4 ppl and 2 beds and a large living room so if any of you that read this page are going to Quakecon and would like to sleep someplace other than the floor of the convention hall give me a buzz, or you can just meet us there. I don't think we'll refuse anyone we know for a nominal fee (hehe). I think there's even a couch.

I'm also supposed to be getting Episode:1 tickets today. Why is that that someone that is financially sound enough(read: student :) ) to get a credit card always gets the shaft? Damnit, Credit Cards: Don't live life with out 'em!

I need to be more clear on how to use the skins. I guess in my haste to make them available I made things more complicated than I should have. In an effort to change that I have posted a new pak file Now you can use the skin names for the "model visor/" command. In his case they are: Polyblack, Polyblue, Polycyan, Polygreen, Polyorange, Polypurple, Polyrain, Polyred, Polyyellow, and Polywhite.

I also have the .skin files available here so you can download and just place into the models/players/visor directory. Then all should be well.

I'm workingg on a collage of the skins in action that will replace the banner up top.

Tuesday, May 11th - Night
Woot! Well a great thing happened today. A guy came into the #mahq-ra2io channel on EnterTheGame.com named google and showed us something that we should have though of, but obviously google was smarter than we were. It seems that if you rename the 'demoq3' directory to 'baseq3' you can do anything you want to the pk3 and add stuff outside of the pk3 including MORE pk3s. Well know I finally got to see my skins in action. The rainbow one has got to be my fav'. I also have a neat little suprise: an acttualy polypak pk3! with all of the .skin files. I'll get some screenshots and stuff up ASAP. Check the Download page for the files, and be sure to drop google a line saying thanks for coming up with the process, and check out his Clan's website at this address.

To help those of you out trying to figure out what's the point of a pk3 file, the pk3 file also contains all the .skin files. These are neccesary for a skin to work. This is actually what you tell the engine when you put "model visor/blue" in the console. You tell it which .skin files to access. In this case it would be the lower_blue.skin, upper_blue.skin, and head_blue.skin files. It really doesn't have to have anything to do with the actual TGA name so long as the file is named properly in the .skin file. It's all in the polypak.zip readme. If you have problems email me. I've also renamed the files to help. The original file that you could download here is now called polytga.zip the new file is called polypak.zip.

Tuesday, May 11th - Day
Well it seems that id is not letting us muk around in the pak file at all, and on top of that there are only certain files that they are allowing to be accessed outside of the pak file so as far as I can tell no custom skins for you or me during the test. Essobie figured a way to hack a custom .cfg file so if you want to know how to do that head to his site. I think I'll get around to making some more colors or atleast refining the ones I have sometime soon. If it is ever possible or I find a viewer that will show me the whole model I'll post screenshots of them. Maybe Essobie will make me a nice graphic for me then.

Introduction
  Hi,

I'm Novus. I'll be your host... I guess. I'll be upfront with you. I am totally new to the skinning scene. In fact I'm so new that I just got Photoshop on April 28th, 1999. Well, I was messing around with the Visor skin from the Win32 server release, and was talked through "layers" on irc by some friends of mine (more on them later). Well I started fooling around and came up with these masks that ended up being the templates for what you see on the screenshots page. I know that to any good skinner (read: anyone that's better than me. (read: everybody)) can look at this and know it's just total crap, but hey... I was first so bite me. At least I took the time to do it (read: two days). Well, hopefully these work since I don't know anybody that has a Mac and the Linux version was just released, but I'll get them tested ASAP. Thanks for supporting a newbie skinner.

Later,

Novus

Thanks to: NoFaDz and crew for hooking me up with the site. Essobie of Rocket Arena 2 : Inside and Out fame for making the site (I'm lazy) and helping me with PS. Ares[K] for helping me with PS. The whole crew from #mahq-ra2io on EnterTheGame for being cool... I guess, and finally Toxy just because he'd be pissed if I didn't mention him. Doh! BIG thanks to id Software for making a kick ass game even though I haven't even played it yet.
