Just got back from the show dudes- stood right in front of the amp so
my head is still ringing- it was fuckin' great. In addition to Gener
going off on some Billy Joel tunes (Piano Man, and that Bottle of
Red/Bottle of White song), and some jamming to ELP, the band really
rocked the place. I don't have a set list but here's most of what
they played by album. I must add that the encore included a
bizarro-trippy Poopship that is still blowing my mind as I write this.
From GWS: You Fucked Up
Pod: Frank (the definite highlight of my show, Gener was singing thru
the megaphone that Deaner bought him for Xmas.); Dr. Rock
Pure Guava: Tender Situation; Poop Ship (fucking amazing- really
bizarre vocal effects and just generally wacky)
12GCG: Piss Up a Rope; Mr. Richard Smoker; Fluffy (Gener played it
mostly alone on stage and than Dean came out and jammed- another
highlight, IMO).
C&C: Take Me Away; Spinal Meningitis; Mr. Would You Please Help My
Pony (Deaner exclaimed before the song that it was his favorite Ween
tune, said it had a "blues" thing going on).; Voodoo Lady (with a
real cool extended guitar jam, Deaner was going nuts bent over, and
looking like he had a different twisted face every 2 seconds); HIV
Song; What Deaner Was Talking About (opened with this)
Mollusk: Buckingham Green (great version, the best I've heard live so
far); The Mollusk; She Wanted To Leave; Golden Eel; Waving My Dick
In The Wind; Blarney Stone;
Also- Pandy Fackler; 1999 (cool, very true to the original); Now I'm
Freaking Out; The Grobe (??)- new song maybe, and it was fuckin'
rocking, I hope this one's on the next album, I was lovin' it; Hot
For Teacher (the encore)
I might be forgetting a song or two, but that was the story folks.
Great show. Gener can really fuckin' belt out the vocals mang, he
always had it in him, but every time I've seen these guys over the
last 4 years, he just gets better and better.
Nice to see some of the newsgroupies out there- I got to meet J.
Buckley in person, who was a righteously cool guy as I expected (peace
JB, nice seeyin' ya, get those mp3's up!!), and I briefly met some
cute chick named Jan that also reads this group (and thought I was a
girl, dammitt!). I hear there were a lot of diehards that travelled
from Atlanta and beyond to make it to tonite's show- that's crazy and
goddamn great!! Peace out to all of you.
Well, whoever wasn't there missed a good show.

Oh man, it's the next morning now and looking back on last night, it
might have been the most fun Ween show I've ever seen. For one thing, I
met a ton of people that I've been trading bootlegs with in person for
the first time. I was hanging out in the balcony with Patrick (the guy
who had the Long Legged Sally 7 inches a while back) and right below us
I saw some people with a camcorder, and one was setting up some mics, so
I went to give them my card so I could get copies, and the guy taping
was somebody I'd done some trades with before. Then these guys who came
up from Atlanta (that was the guy who was trading the Butthole Surfers
video which I highly reccomend to anyone who can throw this guy some
Ween boots) who had tried to call and find out where we were meeting
beforehand were asking around if anyone knew me, and they got the guy
who was taping and he pointed me out. And Sauronica gave me a good
enough description so I found him right off the bat. And Janney and her
friend had come down from Philly with Patrick.
So, the opening band, Sound of Virtue, were incredible. They were all
dressed in shiny disco suits except the guitarist who was wearing a red
bathrobe. They came out and were saying really goofy shit like "Hey,
we're from New York. Do you guys like Friends? How about Titanic?"
They proceded to rock for about a half hour and handed out free CD's
which I tried to grab without any luck. Definitely the best opening
band they've had since Doo Rag!
Ween came out pretty shortly after and opened with What Deaner Talking
About and just kept going for the next three hours. Somebody wrote down
the whole setlist to post somewhere (probably on the Ween Wide Web) so
I'll just hit some of the highlights... NEw stuff--- They did Pandy
Fackler, Latrobe, Stroker Ace (about racecar driver Dick Trickle) which
fucking wailed, and a short acoustic version of Homo Rainbow. They also
let Dave sing some very indie-popish song but I forgot the name. They
did 1999 with the dancer from the opening band onstage with them (he
reminded me of Fez from That 70s Show all discoed out and with the slick
moves. After that, he jumped into the audience and danced with these
chicks for a while. Deaner bought Gener a megaphone for christmas, and
he sang Frank through it which was unbelievable! That song just kept
going and going and going. There was also a birthday cake and champagne
for Dave because it was his birthday. I forgot which song they ended
with, but everybody dropped there instruments and left the stage except
Deaner who continued to play with the feedback for a while.
The encore was pretty weird. They started with Blarney stone, did a
Billy Joel medley which I don't think they've ever done before (Piano
Man into some other song). Poopship was particularly sick, and they
closed it out with Hot For Teacher.
It was a great show! Gener played a lot more guitar than usual. They
were pretty wasted. Dean kept saying they were melting down.
Definietely far better than the last time they were at the 9:30 club.
Cheers to everybody I met there, and hope to see you all again next time
around. Oh yeah, and I'll have the full roll of pictures I took up in a
couple of weeks for your viewing pleasure.

What can I say... Once again I am in absolute amazement.
Everything played was so incredible sounding. I thought the
Mollusk tour was nuts. 3 hours of total genius. Unfortunately,
9:30's "Gay Disco" proved to be the end of a nutty show. Also,
I hope Claude and Gener have made up. It looked as if he got a
little pissed at the end. Oh, well.... I hope a full tour is in
the works after the new album is done. Can't wait to
hear it..
