From: Robert MellonSubject: Ween in Austin , Texas 7/27/97 Date: Wed, 30 Jul 1997 08:53:43 -0700 It was an amazing Sunday night here in Austin. Ween rocked Liberty Lunch like never before. The only drawback was the heat. The SMALL venue "Liberty Lunch" has a shitty ventilation system plus no A/C and with over 1,000 people at this show....it was not a good situation. I was in the second row right in front of Gene and it was extremely hard to get any air to breathe. Gene was cool enough to give these girls behind me a bottle of water because there were about to dehydrate.Anyway Ween did their best to make you forget about the fucked up enviroment and it worked!!! This is the 4th time I've seen them (since Pure Guava)and my jaw was on the floor. I talked to Claude after the show and he said it was definately one of the longest sets they ever played(They played just under 3 hours). He also said they were happy to have an extra day off(very rare) here in Austin, so they were going to play golf on Monday. I hope they had an early tee time because its no fun to play in the "hot as fuck" Texas afternoon heat. He also mentioned Ween would be doing a fairly extensive tour after the Horde tour and he is still shopping labels for Amandla's Falling Alone. The following is a fairly close set list(in order) for the night but there could be some mistakes: Dancing in the Show tonight HIV song What Deaner was talkin about Freedom of 76 Golden Eel Pony(Mick said it was a particulary tasty version... and it was) Mollusk Frank Daisies sketches of winkle Awesome sound (the song of the night in my opinion (15 minutes long) Pumpin for the man Pork Roll Egg @Cheese Tender Situation A tear for Eddie Waving my Dick in the Wind She wanted to Leave Buckingham Green Baby Bitch Now I'm freaking out Can't put my Finger on it Piss up a Rope Richard Smoker You Fucked Up Squelch the Weasel Ocean Man Booze me up and get me high Spinal Meningitis Blarney Stone Tick Dr. Rock Hot for Teacher (yes they covered Van Halen and they nailed this song!) Paradise City (GNR) Stallion Pt. 3 Don't Get to Close to my Fantasy Buenos Tardes Amigos Big Jilm Most of these songs ended up being long jams which made it even better. They have a new bass player and keyboard player(they both kicked ASS!). Anyone read the Raygun article on Ween???? I'd like to know what happened to Andrew Weiss. I saw about 2 or 3 video cams in the crowd......so I'm gonna try and find out who has copies by placing an ad in the local music rag and hopefully get a copy...or two.? Every Ween show I've seen has been great but........... ....they are in rare form .............go see them! From: Don Quirin Subject: Lasts nite Austin show... Date: Mon, 28 Jul 1997 01:40:05 +0000 Hey kiddies, Ween played an cool set last night in Austin. They rocked the large crowd late into the night and returned for two extended encores. Opening band, Mister Pink and the Fuzzy Wigglies didn't fare so well. At the end of their set they asked an obligitory "who wants to hear another song?" to which the audience unamiously replied "no!" They had the tact to then leave and promptly return to their parents' basement for more practicing.
