Subject: Ween as seen through the eyes of "hash brownie girl" From: rkatzatk@indiana.edu (Rachael Katz "hash brownie girl") My roomate "Vein" got me hooked on Ween and took me to my first Ween show in Cincinatti. I was blown away! I've never really gotten into the whole fan thing- I like all types of music and artists but I'd have to say that I'm forever a Ween junkie now (I NEED my daily dose of ween). The energy from the band was unreal and the crowd seemed to pick up on it and have a blast (I know I did!). It's nice to see a band that is very talented but doesn't take themselves too seriously- they know how to have fun! I had the honor of meeting them after the show. I got everyones signatures in my little fuzzy notebook (and had to bother Gene for two- my hebrew teacher had asked me to get it for him). "Vein" was already going to the Chicago (my hometown) show so I asked if I could tag along- but it was sold out. I was so upset- but after explaining the situation to Claude I was put on the list. So I took another day off from College (the grades are suffering but I couldn't pass up an oppertunity to see WEEN) and went to the Chicago show. The Metro was packed and the crowd was crazy. Another awesome show- the girl that went with Vein and I started crying when Ween came on stage( although I thought that that was a bit strange- I could see how Ween could evoke strong feelings or reactions from their fans- but I was thinking more along the lines of carefreeness- happiness- and - a little screaming etc.- to each his own). Anyways I found myself singing lyrics to songs such as Buckingham Green- but I let "Vein" take it away on LMLYP- (actually he didn't sing, I just thought I'd add that for his benefit). After the show which was over 2hrs. long (kind of hard to stand in 7inch platforms for that period of time) we were hustled out of the Metro by pushy security gaurds (unlike the laid back gaurds in Cincinati who let the crowd stay to meet the band), but I was determined to find Claude to give him the thank you gift that I had brought for him and the rest of the band for putting me on the list (a huge joint and a batch of hash brownies). We finally spotted him and walked through the doors to the Metro to the dismay of the security gaurd manning the door. Claude said that it was okay for us to come back with him but made the mistake of pulling out the joint in front of the security gaurd- who demanded that he "get rid of it" so we went back stage and did just that (even though Claude was sick, I insisted that it would make him feel better). We hung out for a while and then drove home. Both of my first Ween show experiences were great ! Date: 18 Sep 1997 02:58:53 GMT From: drock40@aol.com ok here is the chicago set list....the show was about 2 hours and 45 minutes long. Tickets were a hard score... The show was pretty good...as u can see they played all the classics....only one from golden hits....a lot of older stuff...no covers (i wanted to hear war pigs)...the band consisted of the drummer from the chocolate and cheese tour, the keyboardist was from the the golden hits tour (i am pretty sure, he sure looked like the guy), and the bassist was somebody new....guest guitarist for lmlyp, he seemed kinda nervous and had a hard time with his guitar stuff...i think i have seen the band tighter but i realize it was one of the first shows of the tour, usually they play chicago towards the end..... Gene wore a shirt that said "the complete gardener" and dean wore the new b/w boognish shirt....they looked very good physically...good color....and they weren't as drunk as i have seen them in the past....(they drank budweiser all night untill they got a bottle of jack daniels that they passed around, {budweiser?}) .....when i saw them for the golden hits tour they looked like shit....when they hit the stage they were completely pale.....dean said "they were just smoking cocaine with the boys"....they didn't get there color back untill halfway thru the set....anyway the show was good...my favs frank (dean went off...bustin with the funney faces....), sarah, birthday boy (gene singing accoustic sarah into birthday boy) and u fucked up.....also she wanted to leave broke my heart the way it brought a tear to my eye the first time i heard it..... i think the list is pretty correct except for perhaps the noodling after frank that sounded alot like valejo (was that considered a song?) Buckingham Green What Deaner Was Talking About Spinal Meningitis The Golden Eel Baby Bitch Freedom of 76 Tick Waving My Dick In The Wind Captain Fantasy The Stallion Part 3 Piss Up a Rope Aids The Mollusk Frank Can't Put My Finger On It Pumping For The Man Don't Get To Close To My Fantasy Sketches of Winkle She Wanted To Leave Awesome Sound Ocean Man The Blarney Stone Tear for Eddie Dr Rock Sarah Birthday Boy Buenos Tardes Take Me Away U Fucked Up Lmlyp all in all the show rocked...i sang and danced the whole time....dean even commented that it was a gueling set list...... Won't some rich person take me to see the upcoming ween shows in austrailia??? please? write me.... later mangs [ For the record, that's Glenn McLellan on keyboards and Dave Driewitz on bass. Bobby Ogdin was on Piano during the 12GCG tour. -Vein]
