Hi!
Here is my review of Ween @ The Prince Of Wales, Melbourne Australia. 9
October 1997
The support band were The Fauves just in case you care, but I only got
there about 5 minutes before Ween came on so it's where it all starts.
Although I love Ween, I only own The Pod and a few singles, so my song
knowledge is limited but I'll do my best.

This was Ween's second of their two sold out Melbourne shows. They came out
all jolly and energetic and cool and started to play some of the coolest
music I'd ever heard. Really catchy, rocking songs. Dean was ripping right
into his guitar and Gene was simply awesome. They both looked soo happy up
there, laughing, smiling, posing, just ruled.

While in the process of changing film in the camera, I heard the beginnings
of the first highlight.. VooDoo Lady!!! So away went the film, and we just
danced. They also played Push the little Daisies which sounded different to
the normal version, faster. Baby Bitch which I absolutely love, Waving my
Dick in the Wind, Captain Fantasy, Pony (is that the name?), Piss up a
Rope, Take me Away, Buenos Tardes Amigo was played at the end with the
audience singing along to it, Can't put my finger on it, Tick, Pork Roll
Egg and Cheese, I'm pretty sure they did Mollusk, Don't get too close to my
fantasy..they played for 2 hours and 20 minutes so there were many more :)

Gene and Dean came out for the encore, with Gene with an acoustic amplified
guitar they started playing Mutilated Lips (!!!), but Gene stopped it
before the first chorus because he thought it was sounding like shit.
Instead, they played some other acoustic songs. There was one big surprise
when a guy called Dylan was introduced to guest as a harmonica player on
one song. There is a little history behind that so I'll explain. A few
years ago when Ween played The Evelyn here in Melbourne, this is also how
Dean was explaining this to the audience, they had a guest Harmonica player
called Dylan. ..Now, how he got to play with Ween back then is a great
story. I was listening to Ween doing a talk back show on a local radio
station, when a guy called Dylan rang in and talked to them and i think
they did a jam on the air through the phone. This was followed by them all
joking around about Dylan playing with Ween at their show. The next week, I
was listening to a radio broadcast of that show when none other than
Special guest Dylan on harmonica was introduced! And last night there he
was again! One very lucky guy.

The gig was the best. Gene is one hell of a performer! Drummer Calude is
amazing, Dean just rules, Hi Dave - Love B.E.A.N.

Bye Bye!
