• From: jackde65@aol.com (JACK DE 65) Subject: Providence show review I saw the show in Providence. I was right at the stage, between Gene and Dean. They took to the stage at about 10 pm. I think the boys had to be woken up to take the stage. They entered looking bewildered, yawning and stretching and saying " Good Morning, We're Ween ". At first they didn't look thrilled to be there and they made mention of how it was their first show of 1998. They definitely had the " back on the road " blues. Gene wasn't his usual smiling jovial self and it took Dean about 5 or 6 songs( and a few beers ) to loosen up. To their credit, they didn't let it effect the way they played. They sounded Awesome and the whole band was tight. But it's definitely more enjoyable when you know that they are really into it. I'm sure they'll snap out of it for the N.Y. shows. Some of the highlights were: a scorching rendition of Frank. It was intense and played like I never heard it before. They played a healthy dose of earlier songs with the main focus again on C&C. They cut out a few Mollusk songs. They played a rollicking Blarney Stone ( by this time Deaner was pretty soused ). They finshed the night with an encore of The HIV song, Freedom and Buenos Tardes. Buenos Tardes was done superbly and Gener seemed to be finally loosening up. Unfortunately, it was the last song. All in all it still a spectacular show. Sonically it was practically flawless. I'll make another post with the song list as soon as I get it put together. I know for sure that these are all the songs they sang. I'm attempting to put them in the right order. This is pretty close to the correct order.
