• Subject: Ween Show Tampa @ the Rubb 1/23/98 From: Jeff Harmon ( harmonjl@gru.com ) This is the first time I have seen Ween and I must say they were one of the most entertaining bands I have had the pleasure to witness. They really look like they are having fun. As seems to be their modus operandi, they started slow, showing very little life. Mostly, it looked like they warmed up for an hour. After this first hour, they stopped and left the stage except for Gener who sat around in the blue back lit dark playing a simple riff over and over. Soon, some members of the previous band came out and the drummer took the mic. What a surprise when they suddenly broke into Hot for Teacher. After that, they really came alive. They had the crowd whipped up into a frenzy. They finally ended a marathon show that started at about 11 and ended at 1:15 and I was saddened to see them go. That and I didn't get a Tshirt. What jerkoff decided to bring only 10 larges to the show? Song list? They did most of Chocolate and Cheese. Gener sang Piss up a Rope and really got into it. That guy has got a real twisted country bent. Blarney Stone. I don't remember Ocean Man or Buckingham Green. Little off the latest. These guys are crowd pleasers. They continually asked what the crowd wanted to hear. Someone yelled cold and wet and Gener laughed and said no one had asked in years for that. That is a shame. Oh yeah, what a classic version of Birthday Boy they did. Now I realize how they fucked that song up on the album. All in all, they are a don't miss. A breath of freshness in the self-important sad world of rock.
