Subject: John and Peters review 5-12-98 From: "Kathy Falcone" ( kfb1@ix.netcom.com ) I see no one has mentioned the J&P show, so here goes.... It was my 7th Ween show I have seen. I have to say it was the fuckin best one I've ever seen. It was totally unannounced. It was billed as "Oh, Baby! Party with local favorites" It was some babyshower thing or something. Anyway it was right in the middle of the mini spring tour (after Buffalo before Kansas) I got there about 7:30 pm (pretty late for getting into a little place like John and Peters for a major band like Ween in their hometown) (the place holds I'd have to say maybe a 100 people) So we get there and we walk right into the outer bar and there's like maybe 20, 25 people there tops.... We're in like flinn no problem. Anyway I get the killer spot to set up my microphones and I am so pumped. This place is like fuckin magical. Its like they're playin in your basement. Chris Harford hits the stage about 9:30 or so with all of Ween except Gener. They play for about half an hour then Chris announces Ween and just switches places with Gene and we're on our way. The show kicks off pretty typical of Mollusk tour stuff for about the first 45 minutes or so.... Dancin in the Show, Pork roll, Buckingham Green, Take Me Away, Don't get 2 Close, Wavin my Dick, Dr.Rock, Pony, Golden Eel, HIV, then the show really starts to take off (the whole time I keep yellin Marble Tulip, which I hadn't seen in 3 years or so) (they can here anything in this place that you say to them) ok where was I, oh yeah, next they did I Get a Little Taste of You, Piss Up a Rope, Tender Situation, Voodoo Lady, The Mollusk, and then Gene says their gonna do something they haven't done in a long time, you guessed it Marble Tulip Juicy Tree ( it was fuckin incredible) the show was rockin at this point, it just kept gettin better and better, next was Booze Me Up, Mr. Richard Smoker, Puerto Rican Power, Tick, Nan, Baby Bitch, Laura (also amazing), Blarney Stone (during Blarney Stone, Glen was Playin his accordion and the boys kept taunting him to smash it and he finally threw it into the drums)(pretty fuckin wacked) and then they walked off. It must of been about midnight, it looked like it was over. Claude came out and was hangin out for a while and I asked him if that was it. He said he pretty much thought it was. But we just kept hangin out. Finally, after about 40 minutes, they came back for the encore. They did this old song "Summertime" from the play "Porgy and Bess" with this guy Franciose who sang it. (It was really out there) Then they did Hot for Teacher, then they sang "Happy Birthday" to Bill Fowler, then they did that Grateful Dead tune Stella Blue, after that Gene left the stage and they went into LMLYP. They must have played it no lie about 30 minutes with all kinds of New Orleans jams mixed into the whole thing. Just when you thought it would never end Gener hits the stage to sing that Pussy saga and it was finally over. It must've been 1:30 or so. I walked out of there with my fuckin jaw hangin down. It just doesn't get any better than that. Needless to say the tape came out great. I had one mike pointed at the band and the other was pointed at the PA speaker behind me. Mostly vocals were coming out of that speaker so the tape has this really great stereo separation with vocals on one side and the band on the other. If anyone is interested in this tape I'm into trading for it. I'm really interested in the Buffalo show 5-10-98 or any other interesting thing from this mini tour. • Subject: ween live in '95 FROM: "Patrick Healy" ( Patrick@pbn.com ) I had only heard "Chocolate and Cheese" once or twice when I went to see Ween play in the Fall of 1995 at the now-defunct Club Babyhead in Providence. There were about 40 people in attendance, at the most. There was some guy yelling to them that "Chocolate and Cheese is a good fuckin' album!" At the time I thought this guy was a freak, but when I returned that night and listened to C + C again on the headphones, I realized he was right. Dean heard the guy, and politely said thanks. It's hard for me to remember exactly what they played, because I wasn't too familiar with the material then. The song that I remember the most was "The Blarney Stone". In backtracking and acquiring all the previous albums, I was bummed to not find it on any of them. And when "The Mollusk" came out I was happy. Other things I remember were "Doctor Rock", which was as awesome as it always is live, and "Freedom of '76". I think, for some reason, that this was their first tour with other musicians, because Claude and whoever was playing the keyboards back then took a lot of breaks whilest the brothers Ween played to pre-recorded drum machine rhythms. Could it be "Flies on my Dick" that I am remembering? I stayed for about two hours before my friend who I am forever grateful for persuading me to go, wanted to leave. It was one of those nights where I walked out of the place and wanted to tell the world what I had witnessed. And I did. -Pat Healy
Subject: I've seen some shows, mang. From: Galee Woods-Lemaire ( galee@ace.mv.com ) Lo, what's shakin? I've seen Ween three times. The first was in 96' I think, when they played a free show at Tufts University. My brother goes there, so me and two buddies drove down . Before we went to the show, we went to a keg party, so we were all pretty shitty when we got there. The show was free only if you had a college ID, but my brother's friends were working at the back door and the let us in. So, we were hangin around in this hallway all drunk and Gener walks by. Leon(my brother) starts talking to him, we shoot the shit for a few, and then gener walked into a room. Standing in the hallway got boring so I walked into the room and sat down next to Gene while he was strummin some licks on accoustic. We also talked to some guy named Todd for a while. He was one of their old friends from way back, and we all smoked a few bowls together. We were just sittin around, waiting for the opening acts to finish and I got up and grabbed a beer. Todd said "hey, how old are you?" "sixteen" I said. Todd, "Well, I respect that. A man wants a beer and he just goes and takes it. But if you take another one I'll have to hit you!" That was good enough for me. When Ween went out on stage, we walked out with them. that was pretty cool. Some chick was rubbing her ass against me most of the show, which is kind of wierd because some dude said the same thing in one of your reviews. That was my first Ween show. The other two were this past January in Providence and Boston. The providence show was pretty good. Royal Fingerbowl opened, they're awesome. Ween played a good show, but they seemed a bit spent. I have the exact song list. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise 'cause i wrote em one by one! Here it goes... Buckingham Green Spinal Meningitis Piss up a rope Don't Get 2 close Take Me Away Waiving My Dick in The Wind Fat Lenny Mister Would You Please help my Pony Dr. Rock Golden Eel Mollusk Voodoo Lady Pumpin 4 the Man Mr. Richard Smoker Frank (very well done) (Chant intro{Fucking awesome})I Can't Put My Finger on It a brief Molly(by request) Stallion pt. 3 Oceanman You fucked Up Rip Van Winkle Baby Bitch Blarny Stone (w/ improv by Deaner) Encore AIDS Freedom of '76 Captain Fantasy Buenos Tardes The boston show at the Roxy blew my shit and a half. They were obviosly fired up and thy played the best show I've ever seen, period. Thanx. Max Lemaire PS the file enclosed is a drawing I did, you can use it for whatever as long as you give me a little credit.
JIMMY WILSON GROUP REVIEW JULY, 10, 1997 Subject: Last night's jimmy wilson show Date: Fri, 11 Jul 1997 17:10:18 -0400 From: "PortiaMan" awright, here it is. my friends and i got there about 5 minutes before the sound check started. there were 15 or 20 people outide hanging around waiting for them to let us in. forttunately, the soundcheck was loud enough that we all heard it clearly from outside. they were pretty much jamming, then, to my suprise, played "now i'm freaking out". hadn't heard that one live before(they played it durring the show too). they also played "fire on the mountain". there were like 4 other songs of the sound check but i don't remember them off hand. finally, they opened the doors and let us all in. about half of the jimmy wilson group played first. it was chris hartford, mean ween, and i don't know the names of the rest of the guys. they called themselves the bowel fuellers(i think). they played for about an hour, belting out a few chris hartford songs, some jimmy hendrix, and some other miscelaneous songs. then ween joined the stage and went fucking off. they started with "dancing in the show tonight" and "th mollusk". they also played "the golden eel", "buckingham green", and "blarney stone" off the mollusk. "booze me up and get me hight", "now i'm freaking out", "tender situation", "awesome sound". all right, a pause here - "awesome sound" was fucking nuclear. actually, the whole show was nuclear. what a gathering of musical talent. they played a bunch of other song, some chris hartford, some covers, some down home jimmy wilson. there's one song, i think it's either called "the rift" or 'castle of ice" or something, that totally rips. that was what they ended with. actually, after debating for 15 minutes they cam back and jammed out for another 20 minutes or so. to sum it all up, this was some sick shit. every song was like a 20 minute version with unbelievable jamming piercing through every second. they also accepted an award for best live performance from the asbury park music press. that was pretty fucking funny. there is no band that is better live than the jimmy wilson group. did i say enough this time? How incredibly unthinking of me. I left out a key part of the show. at one point, mickey pulled a rapper from poland that he had met up on stage and he rapped in polish. it was histarical. they played lmlyp and had this kid do the rap parts in polish. and the chorus was in slide trombone. pretty fucking awesome
  • Subject: The greatest day of my life From Mark Schmidt ( chaos@webspan.net ) Hello! The greatest day of my life was when I saw Ween play at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. It was just Gene and Dean and a whole lot of love. I was right up in front, and was rocking out to their entire set. When it was over, I snatched up the set list before anyone else could get their grubby paws on it. When Gene and Dean were about to do an encore, I yelled, at the top of my lungs, "Never Squeal"! To my utter delight, they played my request. At the end of the night, I got them to autograph my set list. They wrote, "Time is thine iniquity, mang." It was truly a beautiful evening. Sincerely, Mark Schmidt, Fan Um Sorry... This section will be updated with the wacky stuff you wEEn fans send me. You send me nothing, Boognish does not get updated. You send me Shiz, Boognish does get updated. Do you have any ideas? Here's a sample of the stuff i'm working on for this section....
